Hyannis at a Glance
Hyannis has long been a summer getaway location. Although tourists had frequented
the village for decades, it gained notoriety in the 1960s when John F. Kennedy
became president of the United States,
as his family had vacationed here since 1925. Hyannis also serves as a major ferry
port and a terminus for bus and air transportation to Cape
Cod. The village is well known for its scenery and unspoiled public beaches.
Several Kennedy family attractions are located in Hyannis, including the famed
John
F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum and the John
F. Kennedy Memorial. Sportscar enthusiasts do not want to miss the Toad
Hall Classic Sports Car Museum, which showcases posh vehicles ranging from
Porsches to Ferraris to Jaguars. The Main
Street Waterfront District features many retail shops, art galleries and quaint
restaurants, and Cape Cod Mall houses over 100 retail stores.
